Erratum for Woods et al. _Science 2011

R. J. Woods, J. E. Barrick, T. F. Cooper, U. Shrestha, M. R. Kauth, and R. E. Lenski, Science 331:1433 (2011).

The main text of the paper mistakenly refers to an fadR mutation shared by the 500-generation eventual loser clones. As shown in Fig. 4A and tables in the Supporting Online Material, this mutation is actually in the fabR gene. The text has the statement: "FadR is regulator of fatty acid and acetate metabolism (25)." This general statement is true for both FadR and FabR. Both are regulators of fatty acid biosynthesis, which is related to acetate metabolism. However, FabR specifically regulates unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis (1,2). We apologize for the error.
